What to consider when renovating your office building

    HenryBy HenryJune 1, 2021No Comments3 Mins Read

If you have taken the next step in building your business by buying an office building, you are no doubt hugely excited about what the future has in store as you continue to grow your business. However, with grubby ceiling tiles and unprepossessing filing cabinets, the first step to take might be to carry out extensive renovation work on your office building to modernize it and make it a pleasant environment in which you and your staff can work. Here are some points that you should consider when renovating your office building.

    Service the elevators

Your elevators play a vital role in the life of your office block, conveying people between floors without them having to resort to using the stairs. However, they can easily sustain a lot of wear and tear due to constant use—the result being that they work inefficiently. For example, the elevators may become out of level with the landing sill, which can potentially be a dangerous trip hazard. Get your elevator system serviced by a professional conveyance management company such as ATIS. They will identify and fix any small problems before they become larger ones that could seriously disrupt the efficient running of your business.

    Improve the lighting

Many offices in the past had the unsavory reputation of having low ceilings and overly bright strip lighting, both contributing to an oppressive atmosphere that increases the incidence of migraines in those working there. Brighten your office by replacing any grubby and unprepossessing ceiling tiles, and swapping lights that are too bright with energy-efficient LED ceiling lights. You could also seek to reduce eye strain by increasing the natural light in your office block. For example, insert large windows and arrange desks near to a natural light source. Check out some of the best industrial lights at https://www.trainspotters.co.uk/product-category/all-lights/industrial-lighting/  .You could even maximize on natural light by having one wall that is made of glass.

    Invest in insulation

Large office buildings can get cold during the winter months, so it is important that you invest in insulation to help keep the heating costs down. However, the type of insulation in your building could literally be a matter of life and death, particularly if you have bought an older building. Asbestos was a popular insulation material used in older buildings; however, it has since been found to be a huge carcinogenic substance that is massively hazardous to health if you are exposed to its fibers. If you suspect that your premises has asbestos, bring in an expert to safely remove it. You can replace asbestos with a safe insulation alternative, such as polyurethane foams.

    Replace the flooring

The flooring in your new offices might be slightly worse for wear, perhaps having a few mysterious stains and coming up at the edges. Replace any grubby flooring with a clean and hard-wearing alternative. If you are considering carpeting, look for one that has a low pile, meaning that the carpet fibers are more tightly woven and hard-wearing. Alternatively, you could decide to put down an easily cleanable linoleum for easy maintenance.
