How To File A Medical Claim After An Accident

    HenryBy HenrySeptember 16, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

If you are injured in an accident, you need to have a police report along with an insurance accident claim with both the insurer of the responsible party and your insurer as shortly as possible. It is the first compensation step for medical bills, lost income, and other damages from the accident.

Contact an attorney from Groth & Associates to discuss your case and approach ways to file the medical claim.

How to file a medical claim after an accident

    • First party vs. Third party claims

There are two ways to file a medical claim: First-party and third-party claims. In a first-party claim, you file a claim with your insurance company, and in a third-party claim, you file a claim with another party’s insurance provider. Most insurance holders have third-party claims covered for those who are injured due to the holder’s actions.

In this claim, your file will depend on who was at fault for the accident, the accident type that occurred, and the extent of insurance coverage. For instance, if you caused an accident while driving your car, you should first file a claim with your auto insurance provider.

But if you are injured by a car while walking on the street or involved in an accident being a passenger in your vehicle, you must file a claim with the third party’s insurance provider. If you are injured while visiting a shopping mall or restaurant, you can file a third-party claim with the site owner’s insurance company.

    • Claim process

Whether you are injured in a car, building, home, or business, you will typically want to file a claim to the insurance company as soon as possible. If you are involved in an accident, filing a claim with your insurance provider is best, even if you are not at fault. Depending on the location of the accident, you will need to provide information about the events of the accident and the extent of your wounds.

The insurance company will investigate the claim. You will be asked to provide photos of the accident, names of the witnesses, or more detailed information about the incident. If the accident occurred due to the building’s condition, the insurance company would inspect the building/property.

    • Denial of claims and appealing process

There are numerous reasons of your claim might be denied. For example, you have waited too long for an accident claim to file or failed to submit an independent medical examination. Similarly, your insurance plan may not cover the car accident you are involved in.

It does not matter what type of accident it is; you will receive notification from the insurance company if the claim is denied.
