I am extremely passionate about travelling, and it’s on my agenda to make at least one trip to a new city every year, but ever since the pandemic hit, the thought of travelling to a foreign country has become a big scare for me. I love Scotland, and I have only seen it in movies and vlogs of other travellers, never visited. I wanted to make a trip this year, but I wanted it to feel like a trip abroad.
I had heard a lot about Coorg. It is known to be a popular tourist destination in the state of Karnataka. There are many reasons for people to visit the district of Coorg, including Abbey Falls, Madikeri Fort, Elephant safari, Iruppu falls and many other tourist destinations. It is famous for coffee, gorgeous hills, temples and breezy weather.
A road trip from Bangalore to Coorg is like the best one I have ever been on and additionally when you don’t have to drive yourself and just sit back and enjoy the drive, it is a bliss. The distance from Bangalore to Coorg, by road, is approximately 200 km and is a beautiful drive. I’ve got to say, “a trip well begun, is half done!”
I opted for a reliable Bangalore to Coorg car rental with a local driver for my trip. This was a solo trip that I was headed towards, and I love adventure, trekking and exploring new places.

Golden Temple: Tibetan Culture
There are several temples here, but this one is simply outstanding and unique. I was surprised to see a good amount of Tibetan settlement at Coorg. The Namdroling Monastery, also locally known as the Golden Temple, is a beautiful Tibetan monastery. The surrounding stalls also have delicious Tibetan food like momos and thukpa, which is a Tibetan noodle soup.

Abbey Falls
Coorg is bestowed with nature’s bounty, and it’s most recommended to carry a camera along with you. The frosted waterfall located in a picturesque coffee and spice plantation offers a magnificent view for that perfect Instagram feed.

River Rafting
River rafting is a slightly underrated thing to do in Coorg, but is in fact, a great place for whitewater rafting, especially during the rainy seasons. This is one activity that you should definitely add to your list of things to do in Coorg.

Food
Coorg cuisine is very different from the rest of Karnataka but mouthwatering! It’s predominantly non-vegetarian and consists mainly of meat, rice and rice-based products. Their famous pork or pandi curry is one of the must-tries. If you’re a herbivore, there is akki roti and koovaleputtu that will do justice to your pallet.
Lastly, Coorg was like the Scotland of India, with clean air to breathe, delicious food to try, and the scenic beauty that will make you want to settle there forever. Before you leave, you must buy chocolates and their amazing coffee. For my return trip, I booked an airport drop in Bangalore from Coorg as I reminisced about the memorable time spent there.
