What Are the Most Common Plumbing Issues?

    HenryBy HenryFebruary 19, 2023No Comments4 Mins Read

Plumbing issues can be minor or major, and they can cost you a fortune if not dealt with quickly.

Fortunately, most plumbing problems are easy to fix. However, some are more complex and require specialty tools, so it is important to be aware of what can go wrong with your plumbing system.

    Clogged Drains and Toilets

One of the most common plumbing issues homeowners experience is clogged drains and toilets. They can be frustrating and expensive to repair, so it is important to know what causes them to occur and how to avoid them in the future.

The first step to preventing these clogs is to ensure that your home has only properly functioning plumbing. The best way to do this is to have a professional plumber inspect your pipes and sewer lines to identify any potential problems that could lead to these blockages. Blocked drains in Adelaide are more common than most people think.

Another major cause of clogged drains is fat, oil and grease that can harden and stick to the interior walls of your pipes, narrowing the passageway that waste can travel. This can also cause your sinks to fill with water and a foul smell.

Other items that can clog your drains include so-called “flushable†wipes, paper towels and sanitary products that don’t dissolve in water. These types of messes can be easily cleaned up by using a flange plunger or toilet auger to dislodge the clog and clear your drain.

    Leaky Pipes

A leaking pipe is one of the most common plumbing issues, and they can be difficult to identify and repair. However, if you know how to recognize the symptoms and act on them early, you’ll avoid costly water damage or mold growth that can be a serious health issue.

A leaky pipe can be caused by a variety of things. For example, temperature fluctuations can cause pipes to expand or contract.

When this happens, it can cause pipes to crack or rupture, and then they’ll leak.

If you find a leak, the first thing you should do is shut off the main water valve. This will prevent further water damage and save you money on your monthly bill.

Next, apply a sleeve clamp to the section of pipe that is leaking. This is a temporary fix, but it is a good option until you can call a plumber.

    Dirty Water

Often, dirty water is the result of a disruption in the water main. A pipe break, a

higher flow of water due to firefighting, or a street sweeper using a hydrant can stir up natural sediment at the bottom of the pipes.

Thankfully, there are many simple ways to make dirty water safe for drinking. For example, you can add a small amount of chlorine to the water. This will kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens in the water.

Another option is to use a chemical called PUR (Poly-Urine). This solution removes a large number of contaminants, such as microorganisms and pathogens. It also prevents the growth of bacteria that cause diarrhea.

    Water Heater Issues

Water heaters are one of the most common plumbing issues that homeowners encounter. They can be difficult and dangerous to fix, so it is important to deal with them as soon as possible.

If you’re having problems with your water heater, there are a few things that you can do to make it better. Some of these problems are easy enough for the average homeowner to resolve themselves, while others require the expertise of a plumber.

    1. Insufficient Hot Water:

As mentioned, water heaters lose their ability to heat water as they age. They also build up sediment in their tanks that reduces capacity.

    1. Unregulated Water:

If you’re having problems with your water temperature, it may be a simple matter of setting the thermostat on your water heater lower. However, if this doesn’t solve your problem, then it might be time to replace your heater.
