And here are some suggestions on how to roll your ratchet bands for optimal durability:
- The ratchet must be locked in its closed position.
- Put the webbing’s longer end through the windlass, but leave about 15 inches hanging out.
- To avoid fraying the webbing’s tip, fold it over about 3 feet from the end and start rolling it up tightly, making it as square and tight as possible.
- The roll should be placed flat on the ratcheting mechanism.
- Pull the hook’s short end through the bundle’s opening and tuck it as securely as possible.
- Now, using the remaining 15 inches of webbing, pull it over the top of the wrapped webbing and loop it under the ratcheting mechanism’s handle. If you don’t have enough webbing to cinch the wrapped webbing, loosen or tighten what you have until you do. Note the length of webbing you need with a marker so that you can quickly and easily re-roll your ratchet bands the next time you need them.
