Reasons Why You Should Pay Your E-Challan on Time

    HenryBy HenryOctober 25, 2021No Comments5 Mins Read

An E-Challan is a ticket that is issued by the traffic police for violations of parking, speeding or other types of road rules. When you get an E-Challan, it will show up in your inbox with instructions on how to pay the fine. The system uses high-tech equipment to find rule breakers and can also provide alternative payment methods to pay fines such as debit cards, credit cards, e-wallet apps, etc. In this blog post, we’ll provide details as to why it’s necessary for you to know your current E-Challan status and pay your E-Challan on time.

You know it’s a bad idea to break the law, but you think that surely there is some way around this one. You’ve heard of people who have failed to pay their E-Challan on time and been able to get away with it. It may be tempting, but if you are thinking about doing this then you’re walking on thin ice, my friend. It’s always a good idea to pay the E-Challan on time.

Why should you pay your E-Challan in time?

It is important to pay your E-Challan on time for several reasons. First, it will avoid an accumulation of late fees and penalties. Second, you can also protect yourself by proving that the payment was made when requested. Third, there may be a decrease in your credit rating which could affect future loans or mortgages.

However, if you continue to believe that you can avoid paying a traffic ticket, you are mistaken. If you do not check your E-Challan status and fail to settle your E-Challan in due time, the following will occur:

    1. A policeman will come to your registered address to collect the challan. It may include an extra penalty amount as the due date was missed.
    2. If you still fail to pay the E-Challan, you will receive a summons from the courtroom and will be required to explain your actions to the judge.
    3. If you fail to appear in court and settle the E-Challan, your license will be suspended.
    4. If you fail to give the judge legitimate grounds for not paying your challan, you will face a considerably harsher penalty for breaching traffic regulations.

    4. Fill in your vehicle’s registration number or E-Challan number.
    5. Your current E-Challan status will be provided to you. In case, you do not have any pending challan amount, the challan amount will be zero.
    6. Fill in the Captcha code.
    7. Select a payment method such as a credit card, a debit card, or an e-wallet and continue with the transaction.
    8. When the transaction is complete, you will receive a notification confirming the E-Challan payment.
    9. Print out the E-Challan payment receipt for future reference.
    • Offline procedure

    1. Visit a nearby traffic police station.
    2. The traffic infraction notice, if you have received one, as well as your driver’s license, are paperwork that you must carry.
    3. If you did not get the traffic infraction notice, you can ask the Traffic Police Officer to look into your previous penalties and provide your current E-Challan status. If you have any challan amount due, it is advisable to settle them all at once.

    Conclusion

The government of India has taken a step in the right direction by making it easier to pay traffic fines. To have a less stressful and more productive day, always follow the traffic rules while driving and if you are ever stopped for going over the speed limit or any other violation, make sure that your E-Challan status is up-to-date so that you can get back on the road as soon as possible.
